Whether it's the Beatle-ish backing vocals and guitars of "Get In" or the Squeezey elements of "Your Sweet Water," this trio is capable of a guitar pop hybrid this is as welcome as it is refreshing. Still, what is most striking here is the ability and desire of the band to push the vocals into the spotlight. All three of these guys write, play, and sing, creating an atmosphere of friendly one-upmanship that the pop fan is all the better for. "(You Won't) See Emily Play" is a romp through the center of Syd's brain as it contemplates the Beatles, while "Fill'er" is pure Muswell-era Kinks and a scream. These twelve songs may borrow (not recycle) ideas from great pop bands of the past, but are wholly original and reflect a band poised for greatness. If your addiction is pop, swallow this pill, crank up the volume and soon your world will sound a whole lot better.
